Undergraduate Academic Affairs is launching a UAA Dean’s Club! Members of the Dean’s Club will have given $1,000 or more combined to any unit(s) within Undergraduate Academic Affairs within the past fiscal year. For our inaugural year, we are extending the eligibility period to 18 months to include an individual’s total giving from July 1, 2009 – December 31, 2010.

Ƶ receives $1 million grant from Amgen Foundation in support of undergraduate research
The Ƶ has received a $1 million grant over the next four years from the Amgen Foundation to provide hands-on laboratory experience to approximately 100 undergraduates through the Amgen Scholars Program.
UW is a top producer of US Fulbright students
The Fulbright Program, the U.S. government’s flagship international educational exchange program, recently announced the complete list of colleges and universities that produced the most 2010-2011 U.S. Fulbright Students. The success of the top-producing institutions is highlighted in the October 25 online edition of The Chronicle of Higher Education.
Expanded Role for Honors Program Director
James J. Clauss, director of the Honors Program, has accepted an expanded his role in Undergraduate Academic Affairs and is now associate dean. For Jim, the new role is “structurally logical” but is also recognition of the importance of Honors as an integral part of the University.
Volunteers needed for the Dream Project’s Admissions Weekend
Help local high school students achieve the dream of getting into college. Join the Dream Project on November 13 and 14 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Dream Project’s Admissions Workshop Weekend and help hundreds of local high school students craft competitive college application essays.

On October 14, UAA Vice Provost and Dean Ed Taylor and his wife Dr. Sue Taylor received the Distinguished Alumni Merit Award from their alma mater, Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA.
In Memoriam: Ran Hennes, University Honors Program
Ran Hennes, our dear colleague and former associate director, passed away Monday evening, September 13. Ran had been dealing with lymphoma for several years. He was still teaching part-time and enjoying his retirement. During the last six months he had some setbacks and toward the end he choose to go on his own terms.
